Vitamin Classification Overview

Fat-Soluble Vitamins (A, D, E, K) dissolve in fats and oils. They require dietary fat and bile for absorption, are transported via carrier proteins, and stored in liver and adipose tissue. Key functions include vision (A), bone health (D), antioxidant protection (E), and blood clotting (K). Because they are stored, deficiencies develop slowly, but excess intake can accumulate and lead to toxicity.

Water-Soluble Vitamins (C and B-complex) dissolve in water, are absorbed directly into the bloodstream, circulate freely, and excess is excreted in urine. These include vitamin C (immune support, collagen synthesis) and B vitamins (energy metabolism, red blood cell formation, neural function). They require regular dietary intake to prevent deficiency, but have a lower risk of toxicity due to rapid excretion.
